2005 Season Win Totals And How To Bet Them
|
Author: MasterBets - Wednesday, November 02, 2005
The NFL Preseason is barely underway but NFL betting has started in earnest. All decent sports books have posted odds on the 2005 NFL regular season wins for each team. This is one futures market every serious NFL handicapper, and even casual sports gamblers, should look into.
Let's take a look at some of the lines and see what they mean:
New England are out at 10.5 wins (prohibitive -116 at pinnaclesports.com, as a lot of other books posted them at 11). The Patriots are in a tough division facing the Bills and the Jets twice, plus they have the toughest of regular season schedules. There is no value in betting them Over 11, and the Under is the better bet.
Cincinnati Bengals are out at a mere 8 wins. This looks like a bargain. A well coached team with a QB set to make big strides, and lots of weapons on both sides of the ball. They are good value to go Over.
The Panthers are overvalued at 9.5 total wins, and the value play there would be to take the Under. But a team like the Chargers are still available at 8 total wins, which they should be able to achieve. This is a great value play.
Shop around for the best price as they tend to fluctuate quite markedly, both in terms of the actual total (a 1/2 point here is crucial) and the odds they are willing to pay. Some sportsbooks will give you the Bengals at only 7.5 total wins but you have to accept $1.50 for that honor. Instead take the 8 wins at the better line of -120 or even -110 at some books.
