Big 10 Road Woes By Tom Stryker

Located in South Bend, Indiana and in the heart of Big 10 country, getting a handle on one
of the most competitive conferences in the college ranks has never been a problem. Teams
like Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Purdue, Illinois and Wisconsin are all within a
four-hour drive from my house. Because of that proximity, I've been able to isolate
certain situational tendencies that have developed in both football and
basketball.
Today, I'll look at Big 10 hoop teams and specifically their performances on the
road.
Quietly, Big 10 guests have struggled something fierce away from the comforts of home.
Since the 2001-01 season, road teams in conference play are a dismal 234-314-13 ATS!
Right off the bat that's a 57.2 percent winning situation!
Like all of my technical situations, there are parameters that can be added that
strengthen the angle at hand. This one is no different. First, Big 10 road underdogs
have performed much worse posting a stiff 152-224 ATS. If our road pup is matched up
against an opponent that enters with momentum off a SU and ATS win, this set dips to a
shocking 57-97 ATS! That's a sweet 62.9 percent money-maker!
That are two more parameters that we can add to this 57-97 ATS set that really make it
pop. If our guest is running at game 24 of the season or less, this situations crashes to
an ugly 39-79 ATS! By taking out the meaningless games at the end of the season, I've
removed an 18-18 ATS record. Finally, with out 39-79 ATS set in hand, this Big 10 Road
Woes angle falls to an unbelievable 9-38 ATS provided our guest beat the pointspread by
three points or more in their last game! If the road team comes in with a little momentum
of its own it's definitely NOT a good thing!
Unfortunately, there are no plays available in this system on Saturday, January 27th.
However, it will pop again this season so be sure to keep an eye on these poor Big 10
