MasterBets Football Betting Recap For The Weekend
|
Author: MasterBets - Sunday, October 26, 2008
October 26 - There were only three College Football games that we wanted serious action on for Saturday: SMU at Navy (-12 on Navy); Oklahoma State at Texas (OK State +12); and UNLV at BYU (-23 on BYU). The top two picks were combined into a single parlay, which can make betting sense if you don't go overboard (stick to 2-team for normal ATS bets, and consider 3-team teaser parlays, but looking for more is improbable and going to cost you money in the long run).
The College football parlay won handily. Oklahoma State looked like they might get overwhelmed early when the score drifted past the spread at 21-7 Texas, but full credit to the road team who hung in there and had their chances for the outright upset. They lost by 4 but exposed the spread as a public trap play. Our data suggested it was a 1 td game and the proper line should have been -7.5 points, so there was a lot of value. Navy crushed SMU. Navy are underrated and should be looked at closely when playing at home. SMU are very poor and it could pay to bet against them again in future games.
The BYU game was bet as a single ticket and never really looked like cashing. They won the game by 7 in the end, but were miles away from the cover. This team seems a little overvalued now. Remember that they only managed to beat Washington by a single point, lost to TCU, and have now failed to cover at home against a very average opponent. On the road BYU should be vulnerable, particularly if they have to lay points.
The NFL record for Sunday read: Played 4, Won 3, Tie/Push 1, Lost 0.
Our top selection was on the Panthers who hosted the Cardinals. The line for this game originally opened at 3.5 points and when our bet was made the line was -4. The pick was published here at -4, but on the day there was some late movement and certain books showed -4.5 points. Hopefully our clients were able to get the -4 as we did. Even so, the game was disappointing as the Panthers really came out flat and looked to be headed for a huge loss with the score 3-17 in the 3rd quarter. Then Carolina turned it all around and went ahead 24-23. The Cardinals turned the ball over with a Warner INT and we were hoping for 7 from that play.
Unfortunately the Panthers defender was hauled down, the ensuing drive stalled, and the Panthers came away with a field goal to make it 27-23, and that was the end of the scoring. This was still a good pick as the Cardinals remain very inconsistent on the road, and but for some stunning early lapses by the Panthers this one would have been a double-digit home team win. The Panthers were the better team.
Our free pick for the week was a great win by Dallas, and the game developed exactly as we predicted - a dour defensive struggle, with the Cowboys relying wholly on their defense and sound running game to carve out the win. Several hundred Mycapper readers took advantage of our free pick, and hopefully you all won something with this one.
Our Underdog game of the month was Seattle at the 49ers. This looked like a gift from the bookies with the Seahawks at +5.5 points against an equally inept division foe. The coaching change did SF no favors, again as we predicted, and Seattle romped to a landslide win.
We also had a bargain $15 play thrown in to the mix and that was an easy win for the Eagles at home to the young Falcons crew. Philly had the cover wrapped up at 20-7 before a late TD by Atlanta gave us all some jittery moments. But the Eagles came back for the last score to win it by 13 and cover the -9 point line.
Do not miss out on our final NFL pick for this week's action as we have the side winner for the COLTS v TITANS game on MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL. You can only buy it here at Mycapper.com and it comes with a solid credit refund guarantee if it loses or pushes.
