NFL Handicapping Recap (Week 1 and Week 2)

Author: MasterBets - 17 September 2012

September 17 - The first two weeks in the NFL are in the books. In Week 1 I released 8 picks, winning 5 and losing 3. Week 2 saw a 6-1-1 record. So in total that is 16 Picks, 11 wins, 4 losses, 1 push.

The wins have included the Browns (at home to the Eagles) and the Ravens (on the road at the Eagles). The Eagles are one of my most profitable teams, betting against them. The reason for this is simple. They're a decent team but they make a lot of mistakes (9 turnovers in 2 games) and they are vastly overrated by the media.

Another profitable team, this time one that is underrated by the media is Houston. I had them as my game of the week pick in Week 1, when they rolled past the Dolphins, and then they dismantled the Jaguars on the road. To my mind they're the best team in the AFC so far and have to be respected, especially at home.

Of course the best team in the NFL is San Francisco. If you can bet on them to win the Super Bowl and you're getting anything around 5/1 I would jump all over that. Obviously injuries could derail any team, but right now they are beasts. They beat up Green Bay on the road no less, and I had them to beat the Lions (who are a playoff caliber team in their own right) on Sunday. They cruised to victory and a cover. They will be very hard to stop and should be followed.

My sleeper teams before the season got underway were Carolina and Seattle. Both these teams are very dangerous and should be followed when they are at home against more "glamorous" teams.

Other observations from the first two weeks are: the NFC is a lot stronger than the AFC. In games where teams like the Falcons play the Broncos and both looked impressive one should favor the NFC team (especially if they're at home). My clients got an easy win there earlier tonight as the Falcons were dominant for most of the game. Bad NFC teams (like the Cardinals) are shocking supposedly elite AFC teams (like the Patriots), so watch out for those match ups. The Texans and the Ravens are the two best teams in the AFC. The NFC is deep.
