The New England Patriots team has lost a lot between seasons and
starts 2006 with the weakest roster in the Brady-era. That being said they still
have Brady, a fantastic head coach (the label of football genius is not quite
appropriate, but the man is a quality thinker), and a serviceable running game.
They will find ways to win games SU but laying lots of points with this team is
bound to work out badly.
Handicapping Value:
If New England Patriots are big favorites we suggest laying the
number against them because they aren't good value in those spots. This is
a team that will scrap their way to a winning record but it isn't going to be a
cakewalk.
Best Time To Bet:
After they play the Dolphins for the first time, because at that point it
will become clear where the Patriots are headed for this season. Betting against
this team in the first few weeks could prove to be a shrewd strategy as well.
Predictions:
The New England Patriots make the playoffs, and maybe they even win
an anaemic AFC East division, but it would surprise us to see them finish better
than 10-6 unless a new superstar (Maroney?) is uncovered. The handicapping value
leans in favor of opposing them and their ATS record is almost certain to fall
short of their SU effort.
