Sport: College HoopsPick Selection: UCLA over CAL; XAV over STJ; KU over NEB
Take Xavier at 6:00 ET. Last night, sophomore F Josh Duncan came up big with 20 points and seven boards for the Musketeers. Xavier is peaking, and had a chance to win recently at home against St. Joe's but just couldn't finish the job. There's a revenge factor for the Musketeers. This is a team that is young and confident, and since a couple of major losses earlier this season, has found their roles. St. Joe's will be in for a tough battle with a grinding team today. Look for Xavier to make this one closer than the oddsmakers think.
Take the Bruins at 6:15 ET. It used to be that they were called the "Gutty Little Bruins". In the recent past, that hadn't been the case. It is now. Cedric Bozeman has turned into a grinder at the point, and the Bruins have outscored their opposition by nine in conference play while going 14-6 ATS. At Staples, they are sure to have a big partisan crowd. Last night in their win over Arizona (completing a difficult season sweep), Darren Collison filled in for Jordan Farmar well. These guys know how to fill a role. Look for the Bruins - winners by an average of 22 in this tourney - to win and cover over Cal.
Take the Jayhawks at 4:20 ET. Kansas has outscored the opposition by 12 in conference play, and had a tough game last night in a one-point win over Ok St. Nebraska is in over its skis now, a surprise winner over Oklahoma that didn't expect to get this far. They'll go no further. Against a team that Sean Sutton called "the fastest we've seen all year," Kansas will step up its defense and stop Wilkinson and White on the perimeter while boxing Aleks Maric out. Kansas has beaten the Huskers by an average of 35 this year. Another blowout comes today.
