College Hoops Pick

Tuesday's 2-Unit **ACC Spread Crusher** - 2/13/2007 8:00:00 PM

  • Sport: College Hoops
  • Pick Selection: Florida St. Seminoles -2 -112

  • Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Florida St. Seminoles 8:00 PM ET

    Florida St. Seminoles -2 -112

The Seminoles are in bounce-back mode after suffering its second straight loss on Saturday as well its second home loss on the season. Florida St. is 13-2 at home on the season while outscoring opponents by 12.2 ppg while outshooting them by five percent including 6.6 percent from long range. The losses at home came against Boston College and Clemson by a total of three points and three of the Seminoles six conference losses have been by three points or fewer.

The Yellow Jackets are off a Sunday win against Connecticut at home and now head out on the road where they have been horrendous this season. They are 0-6 in true road games while getting outscored by close to 10 ppg. Four of those six losses have been by double-digits. Georgia Tech has struggled with its perimeter shooting and free throw shooting in road games, hitting 28.4 percent and 63.4 percent respectively. Even worse is a 0.61 assist/turnover ratio.

Florida St. committed a season-low seven turnovers against Boston College Sunday and is averaging only 10.8 tpg in its last seven games which has upped its ratio to 1.00 over it last 10 games. Also, Florida St. is ranked 2nd in the country in free throw shooting, hitting 78.3 percent on the season. The Seminoles have shot better than 70 percent in 18 of their last 19 games and are the only ACC team ranked in the nation's top 3 in free throw percentage. Eight players are all shooting 76.2 percent or better from the charity stripe.

Seminoles forward Al Thornton, who is listed on every injury report as questionable, said he was feeling better after practice on Monday and expects to play Tuesday which is a big break for backers. Thornton leads the ACC in total points scored with 471 and ranks first in the ACC in conference scoring averaging 22.3 ppg. He is the only starter in the league who has scored in double figures in each of his team?s games. On the defensive end of the court, Thornton ranks 10th in the league in rebounding at 6.7 rpg.
