College Hoops Pick

**Big Monday** 24-2 (92.3%) High-Roller Dominator - 2/25/2008 7:00:00 PM

  • Sport: College Hoops
  • Pick Selection: Marquette Golden Eagles -1 -110

  • Marquette Golden Eagles at Villanova Wildcats 7:00 PM ET

    Marquette Golden Eagles -1 -110

Back-to-back losses to Louisville and Notre Dame has definitely woken Marquette up. The Golden Eagles have won four straight games since then and all four have been very comfortable wins. The competition has not been overly difficult with the exception of Pittsburgh but big wins promotes big confidence and that is what Marquette is playing with. It has won two straight on the road after dropping four of five to start the Big East season so that alone is a huge confidence booster heading into the postseason.

After watching the Villanova win over Connecticut on Saturday, it showed just how big of a win it was for the Wildcats. So big in fact, that it will be a tough spot for them to come back and try and win another huge contest against an arguably better team than the Huskies. Villanova has won three straight games with blowout wins against West Virginia and St. John?s being the other two. We can?t forget however that just prior to that, the Wildcats lost six of seven so don?t think they have turned a huge corner yet.

Now back to Marquette. The Golden Eagles have won seven of their last nine overall and the only bad loss during this span was the game against Louisville. The defeat against Notre Dame was by just three points on the road and we all know how tough it is to win at the Joyce Center. Even with the win over Connecticut, Villanova is still ranked outside the top 50 and Marquette has eaten up those teams, going a perfect 16-0 against teams ranked outside the top 50.

Villanova is eight games over .500 on the season yet it has been outshot by the opposition as well as outshot from behind the arc. Part of the reason for this is the fact that it cruised against the cupcakes but has been blown out against members of the Big East. Of the seven conference losses, four came by double digits including two at home. The Wildcats may be 12-2 at home this season but they have covered only four of the 11 lines games including just two of the last nine.

How does Marquette respond from a huge win like the one from Saturday? The Golden Eagles are a perfect 6-0 ATS after a win by 30 points or more over the last three seasons. This includes a 3-0 ATS mark this season including impressive covers against Duke and Wisconsin and a 29-point win over Providence. The Wildcats are 1-8 ATS off three straight wins against conference rivals over the last three seasons. Also, Marquette is 10-1 ATS in its last 11 games as a single-digit favorite dating back to last season. Play Marquette Golden Eagles 2 Units
