Fairfield Stags +11 -110
***MAAC Game of the Week*** Fairfield is coming off an embarrassing loss at Canisius on Friday night but it might have been caught looking ahead to this game. The Stags were coming off a home loss against Niagara the past Sunday so that game could have had a lot to do with the game on Friday. Fairfield was within two points with under six minutes to go, but did not score another basket over the final five minutes and that was obviously the difference. Fairfield is still a respectable 5-6 in the conference.
Niagara had its game postponed on Friday due to the weather so it has been a week since its last game. Niagara head coach Joe Mihalich said that this is one of the tougher matchups for his team based on style of play. The Stags will want to slow this one down as they did in the first meeting. The Purple Eagles are back home for the first time in three weeks and while the return will help, they have not dominated opponents enough to be laying this kind of number.
Niagara is outshooting opponents by just 0.6 percent from the floor while getting outshot by 4.5 percent from long range at home on the season. The Stags are not a bad road team and two games really stand out in the schedule. Even though they were losses, Fairfield played extremely well at Cincinnati and at Georgetown. Against the Bearcats, the Stags lost by just five points and although the final score showed a 12-point loss the Hoyas, they did not trail by double figures until the final minute of the game.
Canisius tallied 88 points in its win over the Stags on Friday night, the most points surrendered by the Stags? defense this year. We can expect a turnaround as this defense is not that bad and Canisius was fortunate to hit 60.9 percent from long range, nailing 14 three-pointers. The competition steps up but it is not a problem as Fairfield is 15-5 ATS in road games when playing against a team with a winning record over the last three seasons.
Also, Fairfield is 15-4 ATS in road games revenging a loss against opponent over the last three seasons. The Stags were favored on Friday by seven and are now getting doubles and a line disparity that big is completely unjustified which is proven in a spectacular situation. Play on road underdogs of 10 to 19.5 points that are coming off an upset loss by 10 points or more as a favorite, playing with one or less days rest. This situation is 23-5 ATS (82.1 percent) since 1997. Play Fairfield Stags 2.5 Units
