Sport: MLBPick Selection: LA Dodgers
At 4:05pm our complimentary selection is on the Los Angeles Dodgers over the San Diego Padres. People may have scratched their head when the Dodgers acquired a second closer in the offseason in Danys Baez of the D-Rays. But with so many hard-throwing stoppers going down in recent years, and the Dodgers' own fireballer Eric Gagne having come off surgery last season, the Dodgers knew exactly what they were doing when they signed Baez and installed him as their primary setup man to start the year. Indeed, LA management look like geniuses now, as Gagne is gone with another serious injury, and because of Baez their bullpen has not missed a beat. Baez has 7 saves (in 8 opportunities) and has yet to be scored on. The Dodger bullpen is one of the best in baseball with an overall ERA going into this game of 2.74. Righthanded veteran starter Derek Lowe is getting divorced and that may explain his first start of the year in which he gave up 7 earned runs in 5 innings. Since the news of his divorce first came out, Lowe has settled down and has a 2.08 ERA in his 4 subsequent starts. Padre righty Chan Ho Park has teased us a bit this season with some decent outings, but the most overpaid player in baseball is just waiting to revert back to his familiar form. Park has not pitched well in his home park in the past, posting a 4.78 ERA at Petco Field in 2005. Take the Dodgers. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.
