#925 LA Angels with listed pitcher Santana at 9:40 PM EST
There's bad and then there's the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Bob Melvin's troops have dropped 15 of their last 17 games and enter this Interleague series off a shocking backwards sweep at Tampa Bay. Offensively, Arizona just can't do anything. In their last 12 battles, the Diamondbacks have averaged just 3.1 runs per game. The "D-Backs" will need a lot more than that especially if starting pitcher Enrique Gonzalez performs like he did in his last start against Texas. Gonzalez was ripped for seven earned runs and nine hits in only five innings of work.
The Angels of Anaheim enter this contest off a momentum-building win at San Francisco and will benefit from an extra day of rest. Of course, the fact that Ervin Santana is on the mound for the Angels won't hurt a lick either. Santana has been lights out in his last three appearances surrendering only five earned runs and 11 hits (18 K's) in 19.2 innings of work. That adds up to a respectable 2.29 ERA and a WHIP of 0.813.
Arizona hasn't defeated a team from the American League yet - now 0-6 - and their struggles will continue. Take the LA Angels. Thank you and best of luck, Tom Stryker.
