Sport: MLBPick Selection: Angels
At 10:05pm our AL Game of the Month is on the Los Angeles Angels over the Seattle Mariners. The bad news for the Angels and their fans is that they are the biggest disapointment so far in the American League having been favored to win the AL West (again) this year, but so far only managing a record of 27-33. The good news is that in that extremely weak division, they are only 4.5 games behind the surprising first place Texas Rangers. Another bit of good news is that last year's Cy Young winner, starter Bartolo Colon has been on rehab assignment, and should be rejoining the team shortly after being out with a bad shoulder. Tonight's starter, Angels righthander John Lackey had a lot of hype and hope to start this season after his career year in 2005, and despite the fact that he was winless in May, the Angels have won his last 3 starts and he has been consistent both at home and on the road. The same cannot be said of Seattle veteran righty Gil Meche, who has a very good 2.70 ERA in the pithcher's park which the Mariners call home (Safeco Field), but has an abysmal 6.82 ERA on the road. Lackey has only given up 59 hits in 70 innings this season which helps account for his WHIP of only 1.11. After a very slow start, the Angels have now won 10 of their last 15 games. And the clincher is that Seattle is an awful 15-46 an underdogs priced from +125 to +175, including 1-17 on the road when priced from +150 to +175. With the Angels currently priced at -165 (with Seattle coming back +150), we'll lay the wood with the Angels. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.
