Sport: MLBPick Selection: Angels/Red Sox 'under'
At 6:35pm our selection is on the Los Angeles Angels and Boston Red Sox 'under' the total. This is a great matchup, perhaps the best of the playoffs, as these may be in fact the two best teams in the AL meeting in this first round. These two just played a four game series in Boston back in mid-August (including a rare double-header) and the Angels held their own in those games splitting them at 2-2. But going into the postseason, Los Angeles has to be at least a little concerned with its recent lack of runs, as they have only scored ten runs in their last five regular season games -- all five of them on the road. In their last ten games, they are only batting .223 against righthanded pitching, and they will have to do much better than that against perhaps the best righthanded starter in the AL (and probable Cy Young winner) Josh Beckett. But if Beckett has been solid lately, his opposing starter, righthander John Lackey has been phenomenal. Lackey has been perhaps the best AL starter in September with only six walks in his six starts for the month. He is also better on the road this year than he is at home. Boston also had a little bit of a scoring drought during their last series at home against the Twins, something they can ill-afford against Lackey and a very good bullpen. Take the 'under'. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.
