MLB Pick

Free Play For Thursday - 4/12/2007 1:05:00 PM

  • Sport: MLB
  • Pick Selection: Los Angeles Angels (Moseley) +115

  • Los Angeles Angels at Cleveland Indians 1:05 PM ET

    Los Angeles Angels (Moseley) +115

The Angels grabbed the second game of this series against the Indians that is taking place in Milwaukee due to the weather conditions in Cleveland. The victory snapped a three-game Indians winning streak in this series and got Los Angeles back into the win column following two straight losses. The Angels are hitting a solid .305 against left-handed pitching this season and will face off against another southpaw Thursday afternoon. Overall pitching heavily favors Los Angeles as well.

Cleveland sends Jeremy Sowers to the hill who is coming off a solid opening start against the White Sox where he allowed just two runs in six innings of work. He allowed just one hit but he walked five and hit another batter so his control is obviously a concern. He faced the Angels once last season and was hit rather hard, giving up nine hits in seven innings including home runs to Vladimir Guerrero and Garret Anderson. He is 1-2 with a 4.13 ERA in four daytime starts, allowing five home runs, the same amount allowed in 11 night starts.

The Angels counter with Dustin Moseley who is filling in the rotation for Jared Weaver and Bartolo Colon until the pair returns from their injuries. However, it isn?t like he is one of those emergency fill-ins as he had a very solid spring and will likely be moved to the bullpen. He finished spring training going 2-0 with a 2.29 ERA in 19.2 innings of work and in his first start of the season against Oakland he pitched extremely well, allowing one run on five hits and no walks in five innings.

The Cleveland end to the season last year sets up a situation that won with the Angels Wednesday and is in play once again. Play against favorites with a money line of -110 or higher in the first 12 games of the season, a non-playoff team from last season with a losing record but that won six or more of their last eight games. This situation is 33-11 against the moneyline (75 percent) since 1997 with the average run differential being +1.4 rpg. The Angels take the series with a win on Thursday.
