San Diego Padres (Peavy) -120
It really is amazing, although it shouldn?t be, what a difference it makes when a pitcher is 100 percent healthy. Jake Peavy falls into this category in 2007 and the results are definitely showing. His first two starts have been phenomenal which is completely opposite of the way his 2006 was and ended up. In six innings in the season opener against San Francisco, he struck out six and walked just two while allowing only three hits and no runs in six innings. He followed that up with another gem against the Dodgers, allowing one run on five hits and two walks.
The Dodgers counter with Jason Schmidt who was very average in his first start this season against the Rockies. He allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits in just four innings before he was forced to leave with an apparent hamstring injury. It turned out to be just a cramp and that is actually good for us here as he has not had much success against San Diego since his downward trend. In his last nine starts against the Padres, he has allowed at least four earned runs in seven of those games, posting a 6.15 ERA.
Conversely, Peavy has had much success against the opposition. In 13 career starts against the Dodgers, he is 6-1 with a 2.40 ERA and 1.08 ratio. He has allowed no runs in three of his last five starts against Los Angeles. Once Peavy gives way to the bullpen, there are no worries as the San Diego pen has yet to allow an earned run this season in over 28 innings of work which is remarkable. The Padres have had their way with the Dodgers, winning 13 of the last 16 meetings including seven of the last nine in Los Angeles. Play San Diego Padres 2 Units
