MLB Pick

Monday **MLB Underdog Shocker of the Week** - 5/21/2007 7:05:00 PM

  • Sport: MLB
  • Pick Selection: Seattle Mariners (Baek) +207

  • Seattle Mariners at Cleveland Indians 7:05 PM ET

    Seattle Mariners (Baek) +207

This is a very good spot to bring home a big underdog. Cleveland has been close to unbeatable at home going 16-4 on the season and that is the main reason for this enormous price. After a slow start, Seattle has been playing better, going 14-11 in its last 25 games including wins in seven of its last 12 on the road. Being an underdog this big should be reserved for the bottom teams in the league and not a team that is right around .500 on the season.

C.C. Sabathia has been very strong this season but he has put up two poor efforts in his last five starts so he has not been as automatic as he was earlier in the year. Sabathia has owned the Mariners of late, winning four of his last five with all five being quality starts but it?s important to note than all five of those games were in Seattle, a big pitchers park. The Mariners are 6-2 against left-handed starters on the season while hitting a potent .331 on the road against lefties.

Seattle has gotten some great efforts from Cha Seung Baek. One bad performance against the Yankees in New York has blown up his numbers as three of his five starts have been quality outings. The Mariners have won four of his five starts and he has gotten excellent run support sans the last game where they were shut out against the Angels. Seattle has won all three of his road starts with the last being his best performance as he held the Tigers to two runs in a complete game victory.

The bullpen for the Mariners has been a huge strength this season and that helps the Mariners fall into a solid underdog situation. Play on road underdogs after a game without an extra base hit, with a bullpen whose ERA is under 3.00 the last 15 games. This situation is 26-15 against the moneyline (63.4 percent) over the last three seasons with the average run differential being +1.5 rpg. Seattle has won eight of its last 11 following a loss and one of the biggest ones takes place Monday. Play Seattle Mariners 2 Units
