Tampa Bay Devil Rays (Sonnanstine) +123
Tampa Bay certainly is no road powerhouse but it has taken three of five on this roadtrip and has won five of their last eight road games and 11 of 27 overall. It?s pretty impressive considering they won 20 games all of last year. The bats are cooking right now as they are hitting .289 over their last 10 games and have averaged 7.4 rpg on this trip. Florida fell back under .500 with the loss on Saturday and an even worse three games below .500 at home so there is no real edge there at all.
This is a battle of young pitchers and I fully expect future superstar Andy Sonnanstine to recover from his first ever Major League start. He allowed six runs in seven innings of work against the Blue Jays in his debut but now that that is out of the way, it is time for him to settle down. Sonnanstine earned a Pitcher of the Year Award at each Minor League level he has played at during his three professional seasons in Tampa's development system.
Rick Vanden Hurk is coming off his best start of the season as he was flirting with a no-hitter against the Braves but ended up allowing just one hit in six innings of work. Prior to that he allowed 14 runs in just five innings covering two starts and it would not be surprising to see a regression to that. All of the bad outings have come at home where his ERA sits at 13.97 along with a 2.59 WHIP. Florida has averaged just 3.7 rpg in his three home starts. Play Tampa Bay Devil Rays 2 Units
