Sport: MLBPick Selection: Boston
At 7:05pm our complimentary selection is on the Boston Red Sox over the Cleveland Indians. On Tuesday night Dice-K Matsuzaka battled CC Sabathia on the mound and the Red Sox came out of it with a hard fought 1-0 victory. On Wednesday night the score was the same as Fausto Carmona went toe-to-toe with Josh Beckett, only this time it was the Indians who prevailed. The combined number of wins on the season for those four starters (including the aforementioned games) is an amazing 51. Tonight it's back to reality as the Sox lefthanded second-year man Kason Gabbard will face Cleveland's lefthanded veteran Cliff Lee. The combine number of 2007 wins for these two is nine. Gabbard is trying to show that he belongs on the big club and in fact, in the rotation, when veteran Curt Schilling comes back around August 1. And so far, Gabbard is speaking loud and clear with a 4-0 record, 2.97 ERA and 1.07 WHIP. Gabbard has proven to be extremely stingy when it comes to giving up hits and in fact in his last three starts, he has only surrendered an amazing total of nine hits in over twenty-two innings. Lee has been the anti-Gabbard in his last three outings and the Indians have to be concerned with his performance as they try and stay in the pennant chase with a very hot Detroit squad. If there is any reason for hope, it is that Lee is a respectable 2-2 with a 3.72 ERA in six career starts vs. the Sox. But he has never been in this kind of a funk before when he had to face them. Take Boston. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.
