Sport: MLBPick Selection: Mets
At 7:05pm our complimentary selection is on the New York Mets over the Houston Astros. There shouldn't be any reason to panic in Mets-land. Despite seeing their lead shrink to almost nothing just prior to the All Star Break, with both Atlanta and the Phillies breathing down their neck, the Mets are still the team to beat in the NL East and they have loads of talent and a lot of discipline. Not to mention the fact that their ailing ace Pedro Martinez has yet to pitch for them due to an injured shoulder. When you consider that the Mets are 47-38 without Martinez and with a plethora of other injuries, it certainly must give them confidence knowing that despite these setbacks they are still the best team in their division. Tonight's starter, lefthanded veteran Tom Glavine, is quite simply a winner. He is three wins shy of 300 for his career and since 1991, he has only had two losing seasons. Glavine's opponent tonight is another veteran in righty Woody Williams. But unlike Glavine, Williams is anything but a winner this season with a horrendous record of 4-10 and an ERA of 5.47. The Mets have had a lot of success lately against Houston, having taken six of the last nine games. The Mets are 39-17 in Glavine's last 56 starts. Take New York. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.
