Sport: MLBPick Selection: St Louis Cardinals
At 9:40pm our selection is on the St. Louis Cardinals over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Cardinals righthander and converted reliever Braden Looper has said that he wants to stay in the rotation next season and right now he is doing everything he can to make sure that happens. It would be hard to put him back in the bullpen, where he spent his first eight years, based on his performance since the beginning of August, as Looper is 4-2 with a 3.40 ERA and only six walks in over 42 innings during this time. Sure the Cards should have Carpenter and Mulder back next season, but the rest of the rotation is in shambles including Wells, Wainwright, and Reyes (now in the bullpen) so there should be plenty of room for Looper. The Diamondbacks may end up being the best division champion ever with a team batting average below .250 as Arizona is currently last in the NL with a .247 team average. Meanwhile the Cards are hitting a very respectable .275 vs. righties this season, and they get to face RHP Micah Owings who has been having his problems lately. The Diamondbacks are 0-3 in Owings' last three starts and he has a 5.06 ERA during this time. The Cardinals have owned this series lately, taking 26 of the last 38 meetings and are 13-5 in their last 18 games overall as the favorite. Take the Cardinals. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.
