Normally, the home teams would not be such a heavy favorite but being they must keep pace in the playoff race, every game counts and the books want the public to bet into these big numbers. The pitching mismatch starts with Brandon Webb who continues to push for that second Cy Young award. He is now 18-4 with a 2.95 ERA and 1.11 WHIP on the season. Since allowing five runs against the Brewers back in early July, he has tossed eight straight quality outings and posted a 1.68 ERA over that stretch. Surprisingly the Padres are a team that has been able to get to him at times but it has been rare and he has yet to face them at home where he is 8-1 on the season. Arizona is 24-7 in his last 31 starts following a quality outing.

San Diego got a decent start from Chad Reineke in his Major League debut as he allowed three runs on five hits and three walks in five innings. He was able to pick up the victory against the Phillies at home despite not picking up a quality outing. That game was in pitcher friendly Petco Park and this one is his first road start in a playoff atmosphere so it is a completely different experience.
