MLB Pick

Fargo's **75.6% Runline Power Play Blowout Smash** - 8/21/2008 9:35:00 PM

  • Sport: MLB
  • Pick Selection: Arizona Diamondbacks (Webb) -1.5 -137

  • San Diego Padres at Arizona Diamondbacks 9:40 PM ET

    Arizona Diamondbacks (Webb) -1.5 -137

**75.6% Runline Power Play Blowout Smash** This is one of those large late season prices that teams needed to win get hit with. Normally, the home teams would not be such a heavy favorite but being they must keep pace in the playoff race, every game counts and the books want the public to bet into these big numbers. It is far from as sign to take the underdog, especially in a spot such as this where the pitching matchup heavily favors the high-priced team. That is why we take the runline and get much better value and taking a lot of the risk out if it.

Arizona is a game in front of the Dodgers as of prior to action on Wednesday and it is these types of games that is cannot afford to give up. The Diamondbacks have a 34-26 record at home and overall they have won six of their last eight games. San Diego meanwhile continues to drag along in a completely lost season as it is now 29 games under .500 and 18 games under .500 on the road which is third worst in baseball. The Padres are 15-44 in their last 59 games against a team with a winning record.

The pitching mismatch starts with Brandon Webb who continues to push for that second Cy Young award. He is now 18-4 with a 2.95 ERA and 1.11 WHIP on the season. Since allowing five runs against the Brewers back in early July, he has tossed eight straight quality outings and posted a 1.68 ERA over that stretch. Surprisingly the Padres are a team that has been able to get to him at times but it has been rare and he has yet to face them at home where he is 8-1 on the season. Arizona is 24-7 in his last 31 starts following a quality outing.

San Diego got a decent start from Chad Reineke in his Major League debut as he allowed three runs on five hits and three walks in five innings. He was able to pick up the victory against the Phillies at home despite not picking up a quality outing. That game was in pitcher friendly Petco Park and this one is his first road start in a playoff atmosphere so it is a completely different experience. Arizona is hitting a solid .272 at home compared to a Major League worst .236 on the road. Play Arizona Diamondbacks -1.5 Runs 2 Units
