**83% Power Play B-L-O-W-O-U-T Top Play** The Dodgers have picked the wrong time to fall into a slump. They have lost eight straight games after dropping the opener of this series last night to fall to 4.5 games behind Arizona in the National League West. The losses can be attributed to both bad pitching and bad hitting as Los Angeles has been outscored by an average of 4.9 rpg. It goes back even further as the Dodgers are 1-10 over their last 11 games and have scored three runs or fewer in 10 of those, averaging 2.1 rpg. The Dodgers are 2-14 in their last 16 road games.
Arizona snapped a four-game losing streak with the victory last night as the offense exploded for the most runs since August 16th. The bats plated just 2.5 rpg over those four games and the nine runs on Friday is just what the offense needed. Most of the damage was on the road as the Diamondbacks are 6-2 in their last eight home games with the offense averaging 5.9 rpg. The pitching has been hot and cold but the starters have been solid, posting a 3.59 ERA over the last 10 games. Diamondbacks are 12-4 in their last 16 games after scoring five runs or more in their previous game.
Dan Haren is coming off a much needed quality start last time out as he has been uncharacteristically erratic over his last few starts. Even more surprising has been the fact that the bad ones have been at home. He is still 10-3 with a 3.26 ERA in 14 home starts so the three straight non-quality outings at Chase Field are a complete aberration. The Dodgers could be the perfect remedy as he has faced them twice at home, going 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA. Arizona is 6-0 in his last six starts following a quality start in his last appearance.
The Dodgers home to end the bleeding with Chad Billingsley who is having a superb season thus far. He has allowed three runs or fewer in nine straight games but his problem is still allowing too many baserunners. He has walked 14 batters over his last four starts and his WHIP is 1.60 over this span. Take note that he has a 3.02 ERA in 13 road starts but his WHIP is 1.39 which is large. He is 0-3 with a 7.71 ERA and 1.86 WHIP in three starts against Arizona this year. Los Angeles is 2-7 in Billingsley?s last nine road starts. The Dodgers continue to slide.
