**78% Pitching Mismatch (*2.5* TOP PLAY)** The White Sox are coming off a dismal series against the red hot Blue Jays as they lost three of four and have lost four of their last five games overall. The good news is that they are still in first place in the American League Central as the Twins have not been able to take advantage. The offense had trouble against baseball?s best pitching staff but that should all change here. Prior to the series with Toronto, the White Sox averaged 7.3 rpg in their previous 12 home games. Chicago is 24-5 in its last 29 home games against a team with a losing record.
The reason the Chicago bats should get going again in the fact that the Tigers pitching has been abysmal of late, posting a 6.17 ERA over the last 10 games including a 9.07 ERA from the starters alone. This has pushed the season ERA to 4.70 which is 5th worst in all of baseball. The Tigers are coming off a series loss against the A?s and are now 6-11 over their last 17 games. They have allowed a whopping 7.8 rpg in those 11 losses with the offense hot helping much, averaging only 3.6 rpg. The Tigers are 9-24 in their last 33 road games against a team with a winning record.
Justin Verlander is having a very difficult season. He started the season by getting roughed up in seven of his first eight starts but then things turned around. 12 of his next 13 starts were very solid and his ERA came down under 4.00 for the first time all season. However, he has been banged around in the majority of his last seven starts, posting a 5.77 ERA over that span. On of those games was against the White sox, a team he cannot solve as he is 2-8 with a 6.01 ERA in 13 career starts against Chicago. The Tigers are 3-8 in his last 11 starts against a team with a winning record.
Chicago sends John Danks to the bump in hopes of him finding the same success he had early on in the season. Despite his recent struggles, he still has a 3.44 ERA on the season which leads the team. His last three starts have been non-quality outings but two of those came on the road. Prior to his last home outing against the Angels where he allowed two runs in 5.1 innings, he had tossed three straight quality starts and had a stretch of five straight in June and July. Detroit is 2-8 in its last 10 games against a left-handed starter. The White Sox keep pace in the division. Play Chicago White Sox 2.5 Units
