NBA Pick

Friday's 2-Unit **Dallas/San Antonio Winner** - 1/5/2007 8:00:00 PM

  • Sport: NBA
  • Pick Selection: Dallas Mavericks +5 -105

  • Dallas Mavericks at San Antonio Spurs 8:05 PM ET

    Dallas Mavericks +5 -105

The Spurs home court is not what it used to be. San Antonio has already dropped five games at home this season and it only took 15 games for that to happen. Last season, the Spurs were handed their fifth home loss April 5th, 35 games into the season. The year before that, San Antonio dropped only three home games the entire year so this season has been a huge disappointment thus far. One of those losses came against Dallas back in November as the road team has now won the last four games in this series.

The Mavericks have the best record in the league at 26-7 and this is after dropping their first four games of the season so winning 26 of their last 29 games is pretty astounding. They have won 12 straight games, the second time this season they have accomplished that. During this current run, only five of those wins have been by single digits so Dallas has not had to be very lucky to attain this streak. The defense has allowed the opposition to score only four times in the 90?s in its last 11 games, allowing an average of 87.8 ppg

The Mavericks held the league?s highest scoring team, the Suns, to 99 points which is 11 ppg below their average. Three nights later, a Denver team that was averaging more than 106 ppg was held to 85 points by the Mavericks. It isn?t the same on the other side. The Spurs allowed 97 points to a Houston team that's didn't have Tracy McGrady. Milwaukee ran up 114 points, the most points the Spurs have allowed at home in the last five years. Earlier this week, the Spurs gave up 38 points in the fourth quarter in a loss to Cleveland.

. Over the past 24 games, Dallas is outscoring opponents by 10 ppg and the opposition is shooting just 43.1 percent from the floor and 30.0 percent from 3-point range. While the road team has won the last four, Dallas is getting some back with six wins on the last 10 meetings. Dirk Nowitzki is shooting 48.8 percent against the Spurs this season after shooting 44.4 percent last season and he has committed just four turnovers the past six meetings. His play here is vital and he steps up yet again. Play Dallas Mavericks 2 Units
