Sport: NBAPick Selection: Clippers
At 8 pm, our selection is on the Los Angeles Clippers plus the points over San Antonio, as LA falls into a 23-1 ATS system of mine that plays on certain road dogs of more than 10 points who are off 3 SU/ATS losses, and matched up against a foe off a pointspread win. The problem for San Antonio tonight will be motivation. The Spurs have won 12 straight games, yet have not gained a single game in the standings. But that's what happens when your rival goes on a 17-game win streak. Dallas finally lost last night to Golden State, but it's a case of 'too little, too late' for Gregg Popovich's Spurs. Instead of fighting Dallas for the #1 seed, S.A., will be content to finish 3rd, assuming they can stay ahead of the Jazz. After winning 12 straight, the Spurs have proved to themselves that they CAN do it, and tonight's game will be an afterthought. After all, San Antonio already has defeated the Clippers 88-74, 103-81 and 111-82 this season. And, unless my memory is really failing, the Spurs did not trail at any time in any of those three games. So, tonight, I expect the Clippers to come out and fight hard. Their coach, Mike Dunleavy, is a fighter, and nothing has disturbed him more than to see his team get outworked in its previous games vs. San Antone. The great thing about tonight's game is that the pointspread is much higher than the first three meetings, when the Spurs were favored by 6, 2, and 8 points, so there's relative value here. I have little doubt the Spurs will win, but covering this big number is another story. And after having their way with the Clippers in all three meetings this season, the Spurs would only be human if they acted a bit complacent tonight. Take the points with the Clippers in what will be a surprisingly close game. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie.
