Sport: NFLPick Selection: New York Jets +7 -110
Chicago Bears at New York Jets 1:00 PM ET
New York Jets +7 -110
Don?t look now but here come the Jets. New York has won three of four including a huge win last week at New England to pull within a game of the Patriots in the AFC East. The Jets are also one of four teams within a game of the two Wild Card spots so things are looking good. New York has one of the easiest schedules following this game with five of its last six against teams with a losing record. That doesn?t make this game any less important however since the division is what is wanted.
The Bears rebounded well of their first loss of the season to the Dolphins with a sound beating last week in this same stadium. Playing here again might be a slight advantage but this is the second of three straight road games for Chicago and this is a sandwich spot. The Bears took charge in the NFC with the win last week and have a big game at New England next week. Chicago isn?t going to fall down here but it certainly isn?t going to up like it was last weekend.
The Jets still are not getting any respect from the linesmakers or the public for that matter as close to two-thirds of the betting sector is lining up behind the Bears. It looks as though everyone is failing to take into consideration that the Bears have played the easiest schedule in the league this year. The Jets are winning ugly but they are winning and their losses have not been that bad. With the exception of a loss at Jacksonville, the other three losses have been by an average of 5.7 ppg.
Seeing that Rex Grossman had a good game last week, he is ready for a dreadful one this week since it has been his pattern since early October. Overall, the Bears rushing numbers look better but they really aren?t. Both teams are -0.9 ypc on the season while the Chicago rushing offense on the road is downright bad, averaging just 79 ypg on 2.8 ypc. New York is putting up 127.5 ypg on the ground at home and its ypc margin is -0.6 ypg compared to -1.1 ypc for the Bears.
The Jets are averaging 6.4 ypa and the Bears dominance in that category sets up a solid play on situation for New York. Play against road teams that are outgaining their opponents by 1.25 or more ypa, after allowing 5.5 or less ypa in three straight games. This situation is 25-6 ATS (80.6 percent) over the last 10 seasons with the average point differential actually favoring the home team by +5.4 ppg. This looks like an upset in the making but a close game is all we are looking for. Play New York Jets 1 Unit
