NFL Pick

Saturday's NFL 2-Unit **Chiefs/Colts Winner** - 1/6/2007 4:30:00 PM

  • Sport: NFL
  • Pick Selection: Over 50.5 Kansas City Chiefs/Indianapolis Colts -105

  • Kansas City Chiefs at Indianapolis Colts 4:30 PM ET

    Over 50.5 Kansas City Chiefs/Indianapolis Colts -105

We are going to see a lot of offense here as both sides should have no problems scoring upon the opposition?s defense. The biggest story heading into this game is the Colts final month of the season where they imploded and lost out on a bye in the first round. They were just 2-3 in December and the defense allowed an average of 25.8 ppg over that span. Kansas City is coming off its best offensive performance since the end of October so the Chiefs are in excellent shape.

The Chiefs offense likely will pound the ball with Johnson, who set a team record with 1,789 rushing yards and an NFL record with 416 attempts this year, against a porous Colts run defense, allowing a league worst 173 ypg. You do see a few low scoring outputs from the Chiefs offense however, the defenses faced has a lot to do with that. Kansas City scored fewer than 20 points eight times but five of those games came against teams in the top 10 in total defenses. The Colts are 21st in total defense.

In the past three games, Peyton Manning has compiled a 124.1 rating by completing 72 percent of his passes with nine touchdowns and zero interceptions. Excluding one kneel-down at Houston, the offense has scored on 15 of its past 26 possessions with 10 of those being touchdowns. Also, it has converted 19-32 third-down situations (59.4 percent) during that stretch and committed only two turnovers. The Colts are second in the league in redzone offense, scoring a touchdown 66.1 percent of the time (41-62).

Rumors of Dallas Clark's demise because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee were premature as the tight end returned to the lineup against Miami and his impact was sudden and significant. He gives Manning yet another option whether it be in the redzone or something in the middle of the field where Clark is known to spend a lot of time and thrive. The running game is ranked only 18th in the league but Joseph Addai is coming on strong and is very fresh.

The Chiefs, whose defense has improved quite a bit from last season, are still struggling when it counts. Kansas City is 23rd in the league in redzone defense as it has allowed opponents to score touchdowns on 24 of 44 trips inside the 20-yard line for 54.5 percent success rate. While the Chiefs have not been good, the Colts have been even worse. Indianapolis is 2nd to last in redzone defense as it has allowed opponents to get into the endzone 58.8 percent of the time (30-51). Play Over Kansas City Chiefs/Indianapolis Colts 2 Units
