NFL Pick

Sunday **88.5% NFL Underdog Game of the Month** - 12/16/2007 4:15:00 PM

  • Sport: NFL
  • Pick Selection: Philadelphia Eagles +10 -110

  • Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys 4:15 PM ET

    Philadelphia Eagles +10 -110

***Underdog Game of the Month*** The Eagles are just 5-8 on the season but they have been involved in some close games as only two of those losses have been by more than eight points and while one of those came to these same Cowboys at home, that was a completely different Philadelphia team. That was the same week that head coach Andy Reid missed practice during the week due to the sentencing of his sons. It was the third week the Eagles lost when Reid?s sons were in some sort of trouble and the losses were by a combined 77-45 score.

Dallas did not look focused last week against the Lions and while a huge rivalry game should get them more focused this week, it just might not happen. The Cowboys have very little to play for as they hold a two-game edge over the Packers for home field advantage (tie-breaker included) and a complete meltdown would have to take place for them not to secure that. This is a lot of points in a rivalry game. Look what happened when the Redskins came to town four weeks ago. Dallas escaped with a five-point win.

Philadelphia is outgaining opponents by 35.6 ypg so the fact that it is three games under .500 is quite a surprise. As mentioned, the Eagles have been involved in too many close losses and quite honest, a close loss here will be just fine with me. Before the first meeting this season, Philadelphia owned this series with six wins in the previous nine meetings and two of the three losses were by one and two points. Have the Eagles dropped off this much? I hardly think so.

The Eagles have played the toughest schedule in the league this season so by losing as many close games as they have, it does still say something. Dallas meanwhile has played a decent schedule but it has been littered with cupcakes as well and it is just +78.3 ypg in margin which is not that much more than the Eagles. The first meeting was basically over as soon as it started. Donovan McNabb fumbled on the first play from scrimmage, and the Cowboys converted it into their first score, a 2-yard run by Julius Jones.

This is a huge revenge game for the Eagles as the defense was embarrassed in that first meeting as it was the first time a team had scored more than 21 points in the first seven games of the season. Play on road underdogs of 3.5 to 10 points that are coming off a home loss against a division rival and revenging a loss where opponent scored 35 or more points. This situation is 23-3 ATS (88.5 percent) since 1983 with the average point differential being +2.7 ppg. Revenge and focus play big rolls here on Sunday. Play Philadelphia Eagles 3 Units
